Who Is My Ideal Writing Client? A Simple Guide for Writing Coaches
As a writing coach, one of the most important questions I ask myself is, “Who is my ideal writing client?” If you don’t know who your perfect client is, you’ll end up trying to help everyone—and helping no one deeply. Today, I want to break this down in a very simple way. By the end, you’ll have a better idea of who you should be working with too.

So, Who Is My Ideal Writing Client?
My ideal writing client is someone who wants to write but doesn’t know where to start. They dream of writing a book, a blog, or even social media content, but they’re stuck. They might be afraid. They may think their writing isn’t “good enough.” They often say things like:
- “I don’t know how to organize my ideas.”
- “I start writing but never finish.”
- “I’m not sure anyone will read what I write.”
These are the people I love to work with. They don’t need to be experts or bestselling authors. They just need to have a story, a message, or a goal—and the willingness to learn.
What Problems Does My Ideal Client Face?
Let’s look at some of the main struggles my ideal writing client faces:
-
Lack of Confidence
They doubt their voice. They feel like their writing doesn’t matter. They compare themselves to others and feel small. -
Overwhelm
They have too many ideas or no clear plan. They don’t know what steps to take or what tools to use. -
Procrastination
They keep putting writing off because they feel unprepared or scared of failing. -
Fear of Judgment
They’re scared someone will criticize their writing. Or worse—they fear no one will read it at all.
As a coach, I guide them through all these feelings. I show them how to break big writing goals into small steps. I help them build confidence, get organized, and finish what they start.
What Does My Ideal Writing Client Want?
Now let’s talk about what they really want.
- They want clarity. They want to know exactly how to start and finish their writing project.
- They want feedback. Not harsh criticism—but honest, kind help to improve.
- They want structure. A simple plan that makes writing feel doable.
- They want accountability. Someone to remind them to keep going when they feel stuck.
My ideal client wants to grow. They’re not looking for magic. They’re looking for a guide.
How Do I Help My Ideal Writing Client?
I don’t just teach grammar or sentence structure. I help people become writers. That means helping them:
- Set writing goals that match their lifestyle
- Create outlines for their book, blog, or story
- Learn to edit with confidence
- Build writing habits they can stick with
- And most importantly… believe in themselves
This is where real growth happens. And it’s why I’m passionate about coaching.
